Promoting Civic Inclusion and Engagement for newcomers and new Canadians
· Objective: To support newcomers and new Canadians, particularly first-generation, in becoming active and engaged citizens in their new home by providing resources, support, and guidance as they learn about the sociopolitical climate in Canada and the benefits of working in social groups to advocate for community action.
· Target Population: new Canadians, particularly first-generation newcomers in the early stages of integrating into their new society.
Art and Theater for Civic Engagement Program
· Description: This project will use creative tools such as art and theater to bring real life obstacles to the stage for analysis and discussion. These sessions will be facilitated by experienced community leaders and will encourage open and honest discussions about sensitive topics.
· Outcomes: Participants will have an opportunity to engage with their community and learn about the challenges they may face as they navigate their new home. They will also have the chance to develop their own artistic skills and express themselves creatively.
Mentorship Program
· Description: This project will pair new Canadians with more established members of the community who can provide guidance and support as they navigate their new surroundings. This could include assistance with finding employment, navigating the educational system, and becoming involved in local organizations and community groups.
· Outcomes: Participants will have access to a mentor who can provide guidance and support as they adjust to life in Canada. They will also have the opportunity to build relationships with more experienced members of the community and learn about the resources and support available to them.
Workshops and Classes on Civic Engagement and Social Activism Program
· Description: This project will offer a series of workshops or classes focused on civic engagement and social activism. These sessions will be led by experienced community leaders and will cover topics such as how to become involved in local politics, how to advocate for change on issues that are important to the community, and how to build coalitions and partnerships with other groups and organizations.
· Outcomes: Participants will have the opportunity to learn about the tools and strategies they can use to become active and engaged citizens in their new home. They will also have the chance to connect with other members of the community who are interested in similar issues and to build their skills and knowledge in this area.
